BOGOTA – Colombian airline Avianca is taking legal action against influencer Yeferson Cossio. On March 11, 2026, during flight AV46 from Bogotá to Madrid, he allegedly activated a chemical stinky bomb, known as a “stink bomb.” The plane had to return. The incident occurred over the Atlantic Ocean, far from any airport where the plane could divert. According to Avianca, this action compromised both safety and hygiene conditions aboard the plane. As a result, the airline canceled his return flight and terminated its transport agreement with Cossio. The company made this statement on March 29.
FOLLOWERS
Cossio is a well-known influencer with over 4 million followers on YouTube and 19 million on TikTok. He raised doubts about the severity of the incident in a public message on March 31 on his YouTube channel. He claimed that the device had been activated accidentally while he was searching for a case in his hand luggage. “I feel very sad that the situation was exaggerated and presented differently,” he said.
“IT WASN’T A JOKE”
“What happened on the plane wasn’t a joke,” said Cossio, who took responsibility but said the situation was exaggerated. He recently posted a video on his social media showing a device like a “fart cushion,” which had caused a negative reaction in the cabin.
CALL FOR STRICTER LAWS
Avianca is using the incident to call for stricter laws against passenger misconduct in Colombia. The airline is urging legislators to impose harsher penalties and handle such cases more swiftly. Airlines frequently face issues with difficult passengers. Recently, Transavia proposed a ten-year flight ban for a passenger who caused a disturbance.
