Air Border Closure Aruba Venezuela : Prime Minister Mike Eman has announced that a decision on whether to extend the closure of Aruba’s air border with Venezuela or reopen it will be made between May and June.
In an interview with Matutino DIARIO, Mr. Eman stated that a recent meeting was held with the Director of the Dutch Department responsible for visa processing matters. The discussion focused on the status of air travel and whether the Dutch Embassy is prepared to handle visa procedures if Aruba were to reopen air travel with Venezuela.
The Prime Minister noted that the Dutch Embassy currently processes a limited number of visas — around 5,000 out of approximately 8,000 total visa operations. This capacity factor is part of the discussion on reopening the border, especially since Aruba still has no active air connection to Venezuela.
Mr. Eman explained that, aside from visa processing, the decision is influenced by broader socio‑economic and political stability conditions in Venezuela. The government’s departments of Security and Foreign Relations, together with Dutch authorities, are monitoring the situation.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need for a responsible approach. He said Aruba wants to have clarity by May or June on whether to extend the current air border closure or fully open it. “We intend to make a decision around those dates — whether to prolong or to open definitively,” Mr. Eman reiterated.
