ORANJESTAD — Aruba, along with Bali and the Dominican Republic, has been featured in Expedia’s 2025 Island Hot List, highlighting the world’s most sought-after island getaways based on booking and search trends.
The Southern Caribbean island, known for its Dutch heritage, was recognized as the best destination for “Year-Round Sunshine.” According to Expedia, travel interest in Aruba is up 15% compared to 2024. Described as “Desert Beauty Meets Caribbean Bliss,” Aruba’s arid landscapes and reliable sunshine make it a haven for hiking, biking, and relaxing days by the beach.
Bali was named “Best for Relaxation”, attracting eco-conscious travelers seeking wellness retreats and cultural experiences, while the Dominican Republic claimed “Best for Adventure” with growing interest in outdoor excursions such as waterfall treks, mountain biking, snorkeling, and ziplining.
Other international destinations making the Hot List include Fiji, Jamaica, Koh Samui (Thailand), Maldives, Paros (Greece), and Sardinia (Italy). In the U.S., Oahu, Hawaii topped the domestic list as the “Best for Surfing,” followed by Nantucket and Palm Beach, both experiencing significant increases in travel interest.
Expedia’s report notes a 30% overall rise in global island vacation interest, driven by improved flight connectivity, diverse cultural and recreational offerings, and a shift towards sustainable and authentic travel experiences. The best time to book an island trip? September — offering the ideal balance of affordability and great weather.
