Community spirit and charitable giving took center stage at the 5th Annual Alex Nieuwmeyer Memorial Golf Tournament, hosted by the Divi Impact Foundation at the renowned Divi Links Golf Course. This year’s event successfully raised AWG 100,000 for the Brighter Future Academy Foundation, a school dedicated to educating children with Autism and Down syndrome in Aruba.

A Sold-Out Tournament with a Powerful Cause

The tournament was at full capacity once again, drawing golf lovers, sponsors, and supporters from all over the island. A major highlight was the Hole-in-One Challenge at Hole 7, where participants had the chance to win a brand-new KIA EV5. While no one claimed the car, the thrill of the challenge electrified the atmosphere and brought out the best in everyone.

Brighter Futures Begin Here

The tournament’s proceeds were donated to the Brighter Future Academy Foundation, a private institution serving children who cannot attend public schools due to special educational needs. Their work has been vital in promoting inclusivity and offering hope to many families on the island.

A Heartwarming Surprise

In a moving moment during the check presentation, Divi Impact Foundation President Ricardo Veldwijk presented two donation checks totaling AWG 100,000. Beyond the tournament’s earnings, an additional AWG 65,000 was raised over the past year by Divi Resorts employees and guests, a surprise that brought tears to the eyes of Brighter Future Academy representatives.

“This was more than just a donation—it was an overwhelming moment of compassion and community,” said a representative from the Academy.

Honoring a Legacy of Leadership and Kindness

Held in memory of Alex Nieuwmeyer, the former Divi Resorts Managing Director, the event continues to reflect his passion for hospitality and his commitment to giving back. Each year, the tournament grows in size and purpose, channeling funds and awareness into education, wellness, and inclusion.

A Model for Corporate Social Responsibility

More than just a sporting event, the Divi Impact Golf Tournament exemplifies the power of community-driven action in Aruba’s hospitality and tourism industry. It stands as a shining example of how businesses and individuals can work hand in hand to make a meaningful difference.
