More Achievements in the First 100 Days of the New Government

VIEWS

At the end of last week, the AVP-Futuro Government reached its first 100 days in office.

The coalition government is built on a strong foundation of mutual respect and broad cooperation, focusing on a future that centers on the general interest. From day one, it chose open dialogue with key community stakeholders: unions, business groups, the tourism sector, social institutions, and the people of Aruba.

Looking back on these first 100 days, the Cabinet proudly reflects on the results achieved and looks forward with determination to the next phase of reconstruction and renewal. Under the leadership of Premier Mike Eman and Vice Premier Gerlien Croes—a dynamic duo combining experience and action—the government works toward an Aruba where progress is shared by all citizens.

Here are some important results accomplished in this short period:

  • Innovation: The government is actively strengthening human capital as the foundation for sustainable socioeconomic growth. A new project was launched to modernize educational content and delivery, focusing on digital technology and equal access to digital skills. Efforts include integrating digital literacy and coding into schools and reviving the e-government project to digitalize public services after a long pause.

  • New Momentum for Culture: Recognizing culture as the basis of identity, creativity, and community spirit, the government has started preparations for a broad cultural consultation with experts and stakeholders. The goal is a renewed cultural policy emphasizing heritage, education, artistic quality, and wide public participation, laying the foundation for a sustainable cultural sector.

  • Housing for All: The government is committed to providing decent and affordable housing, especially for low- and middle-income families. In collaboration with FCCA, work is underway to develop new sustainable neighborhoods focused on quality of life, social cohesion, and proximity to amenities. Existing neighborhoods will also be included in a broader renewal program to make living in Aruba synonymous with stability, safety, and new opportunities.

  • Sustainable Dialogue: The government has relaunched dialogue with hotel sector representatives to promote a sustainable tourism model focused on quality, balance, and added value to Aruban society. Initial discussions focus on shared interests such as carrying capacity, labor conditions, quality investments, and local participation—key steps for a sustainable tourism industry that truly benefits the community.

  • Securing International Partnerships: The return of Royal Schiphol Group to manage Reina Beatrix Airport is a major milestone for the successful completion of the Gateway 2030 project. The appointment of an expert and politically independent board emphasizes good governance and sustainable airport management.

  • Inspiration and Pride: Honoring national heroes, the government officially recognized world windsurfing champion Sarah-Quita Offringa, a lasting tribute and source of inspiration for new generations to dream big and achieve great things.

  • Improved Relations: The government has worked hard to restore and strengthen Aruba’s relationship with the Kingdom of the Netherlands. A new atmosphere of mutual respect and strategic collaboration has taken shape, embodied by the renovation of Aruba House in The Hague—a symbol of Aruba’s dignity and a place for open dialogue and cooperation. The government’s renewed approach in relations with the Netherlands and the European Union demonstrates Aruba’s active and constructive role in the Kingdom.

In these first 100 days, the AVP-Futuro Cabinet has shown that sincere cooperation based on vision, values, and leadership can deliver tangible progress. From neighborhoods to Aruba House, from nature and care to economy and heritage, the path is clear: a fairer, more sustainable, reliable, and stable Aruba where the general welfare guides all.
