1k
VIEWS

The holidays in Aruba may come with sunshine and swaying palms, but the island brings all the festive flavors, lights, and spirit you’d expect from a winter wonderland — with a Caribbean twist! From savory favorites like Ayaca and Pan de Jamon to sweet delights like Ponche Crema and Cashew Cake, Aruba’s culinary scene shines during the festive season. Discover the island’s tastiest traditions and where to try them this holiday season.

🌟 Aruba’s Magical Holiday Food Scene

Don’t let the tropical weather fool you — the holiday spirit in Aruba is alive and delicious! During December and early January, the island fills with music, twinkling lights, cozy family gatherings, and, most importantly, a feast of festive local dishes. Whether you’re celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s in Aruba, these mouth-watering delights should be on your foodie checklist.

🍖 Holiday Must-Haves in Aruba

Ham di Pasco (Christmas Ham)

A global favorite with a Caribbean flair! Aruba’s version of the traditional holiday ham is sweet, savory, and packed with local flavors. Perfect for the festive table!

Ayaca

The king of holiday dishes in Aruba. Wrapped in banana leaves, this South American-inspired dish features cornmeal filled with a mix of meats, spices, olives, and nuts. No two Ayacas are the same — every family adds their own special twist.

Ponche Crema

Aruba’s answer to eggnog. This creamy drink made with eggs, cream, spices, and rum comes in unique seasonal flavors like pistachio, pumpkin spice, coconut, and red velvet. Best served chilled over ice.

Oliebollen

A Dutch New Year treat — think big, fluffy donut holes dusted in powdered sugar. Look for fresh Oliebollen served all December long from food trucks like the one at Ling & Sons Food Market.

Cashupete (Cashew Cake)

Rich, moist, and full of nutty flavor, this cake is a holiday classic across the Dutch Caribbean. Try it plain, with almond extract, or infused with rum.

Pan de Jamon

This Venezuelan import has become a local favorite. A soft bread roll filled with ham, raisins, and olives — sometimes with cream cheese for added indulgence.

Quesillo

A creamy dessert similar to flan but with Aruba’s unique flavor profile. Smooth, sweet, and a guaranteed hit at any holiday gathering.

Poffertjes

Tiny Dutch pancakes, light and fluffy, served with butter and powdered sugar. Enjoy them for breakfast or dessert. Look for the Pofferdorie truck in Palm Beach during the season!

🍢 Classic Aruban Holiday Snacks

Expect tables full of snack favorites at any local gathering:

  • Webo Yena (Deviled Eggs)

  • Bolita di Keshi (Cheese Balls – don’t skip these!)

  • Bitterballen (Dutch meat-filled fried bites)

  • Mini Croquettes, Soesjes, Meatballs, and Deditos

🎄 Where to Find These Holiday Delights

  • Ling & Sons Food Market Aruba – Get ingredients or ready-made versions of many treats.

  • Local restaurants and bakeries – Many offer festive specials throughout December.

  • Not sure where to go? Ask a local or drop by foodie favorites — Aruba’s culinary scene is happy to welcome hungry visitors!
