Supply restored after islandwide interruption
The Aruba blackout on November 5 began around 2 p.m., and full electricity supply was recovered after two hours and 23 minutes, according to WEB’s account reported by 24ora. WEB and ELMAR issued restoration updates as power returned gradually across the island.
Preliminary finding requires further investigation
WEB said a fault occurred during routine testing of the plant’s high-voltage protection system, disconnecting two transformers linked to RECIP IV engines. Not all engines failed, allowing production and supply recovery to begin after about an hour. The company said production was stable but would receive additional monitoring. It described the cause assessment as preliminary and said further investigation was needed.
Airport reported continuing flights
In a separate November 5 update, Aruba Airport Authority said flights were operating normally during the interruption, while warning of possible longer security waits and baggage delays. Those warnings described conditions during the outage, not a continuing airport shutdown.
