Aruba’s government is assessing a proposal from Starlink after meeting company representatives, Telecommunications Minister René Herdé said, according to a November 1 report by 24ora. No decision has been made on whether the company will enter the island’s telecommunications market.
Starlink Aruba proposal faces further assessment
Herdé said officials exchanged information with Starlink representatives about possible services for Aruba. He said the government must consider the island’s interests and needs alongside what SETAR already provides before deciding how to proceed.
The minister said he still needs to consult advisers from DTZ to evaluate the proposal and determine the next steps. His comments did not establish whether or when Aruba would begin working with Starlink.
SETAR’s position forms part of the review
The remarks followed a meeting with SETAR’s directors, supervisory board and management, 24ora reported. Participants reviewed this year’s annual figures and the budget for next year.
Herdé described SETAR as a solid company with positive results. The government is considering that information together with Starlink’s proposal as it assesses whether there is an opportunity to expand Aruba’s telecommunications services.
