Fundacion Savaneta Aruba honoured Isaac “Shaki” Thijsen on Sunday, October 18, recognizing his lifelong connection to fishing and his contribution to families in the community, according to 24ora.
Fishing learned from his father
The foundation’s account said Thijsen began learning to fish at age nine with his father, Seriaco Thijsen. It described him as a lifelong fisherman whose knowledge of the sea helped him provide fish for many families.
Ties to Savaneta and Cura Cabai
The report said he grew up in Savaneta and later lived in southern Cura Cabai. His boat was named Lindsey.
A photograph accompanying the report identified foundation president Norman Thijsen alongside Shaki and his son Humphrey Thijsen. The foundation thanked Humphrey and Mieke Koolman Thijsen for helping it connect with the family.
