Governor Alfonso Boekhoudt has received the first copy of the 2026 Aruba Kinderboekenweek book ahead of the island’s 34th children’s book festival.
National Library presents the first copy
Astrid Britten, director of the National Library of Aruba, presented the book during an audience with the governor. Aruban writer Daylan Krozendijk also attended the meeting.
The picture book is titled Rashi Curashi ta haya curashi! Krozendijk, who teaches drama at Instituto Pedagogico, wrote the story, and Dutch illustrator Petra Heezen created the illustrations.
Book will be given to children during the festival
The book is the annual Kinderboekenweek gift and will be distributed to children as part of the 34th edition of Aruba’s children’s book festival.
This year’s festival theme is “Spot aan!”, translated into Papiamento as “Luz, Camara, Accion!” The announcement connects the theme with the festival’s focus on children’s reading and illustrated storytelling.
Official opening scheduled for October 30
The official opening is scheduled for Friday, October 30, 2026, at the National Library on George Madurostraat. The governor’s office provided the photograph accompanying the original announcement.
