Dutch State Secretary Eric van der Burg visited the Savaneta Marine Barracks with Aruba Prime Minister Mike Eman as part of his working trip to the ABC islands.
Officials receive briefing on ARUMIL
During the October 12 visit, the officials received information about the Aruban military unit known as ARUMIL, according to NoticiaCla. The barracks visit followed an agenda that also included Aruba’s correctional facility, border security and the former Lago refinery site.
Delegation meets youth in social training program
Van der Burg and Eman also spoke with participants in the Social Training Programme, or SVT. The program serves young people ages 17 to 25 who are not attending school or have not yet found a stable direction in their lives.
Aruba introduced the program in 2010 in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence. Its first phase uses military discipline training at the Savaneta barracks under the supervision of ARUMIL officers.
Visit forms part of wider ABC itinerary
The Savaneta stop was part of Van der Burg’s October 12–17 working visit to Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao. After his Aruba meetings, the state secretary was scheduled to continue the regional itinerary with further discussions on Kingdom affairs and security.
