A cyclist was injured Wednesday morning after a van moved to the right and struck the rider on Avenida Milio Croes, according to a local incident report.
Police and an ambulance were sent to the scene after authorities received a report of an accident with injuries.
Van driver reportedly avoided protruding metal
AWE24 reported that the driver of a Hyundai H1 van was travelling south when metal protruding from an oncoming food truck became visible. The van driver moved to the right and collided with a cyclist travelling in the same direction ahead of the van.
The cyclist reported pain in the hip after the impact. Ambulance personnel examined and treated the rider at the scene, but the cyclist declined transportation to the hospital.
Other vehicle left the area
According to the report, the food-truck driver stopped after seeing what happened, pulled the protruding metal inward and then continued away from the scene.
The source did not report an arrest, citation or formal finding of responsibility. The circumstances described are based on the initial account available after the collision.
Road safety concern
The Avenida Milio Croes cyclist collision highlights the danger posed when cargo or equipment extends beyond a vehicle’s safe dimensions. Drivers carrying equipment should secure it before entering traffic, while motorists should leave enough space to react without moving into cyclists or pedestrians.
