ORANJESTAD, Aruba – A Sabana Liber Pickup Crash left an elderly woman injured on Saturday afternoon after a pickup truck reportedly failed to yield at a T-intersection and collided with another vehicle.
Police and ambulance personnel were dispatched to Sabana Liber after authorities received a report of a traffic accident involving an injured elderly person.
When officers arrived at the scene, they determined that the collision occurred at the end of a road forming a T-intersection.
According to the initial report, the driver of the pickup truck reached the intersection but did not stop or yield to the vehicle travelling on the continuing road.
The pickup then struck the side of the other vehicle, specifically the door where the elderly woman was seated.
The impact caused the woman to sustain injuries.
Paramedics arrived shortly afterward and provided medical attention to the injured woman at the scene.
The report does not state whether she was transported to hospital afterward, so no further information about the severity of her injuries is currently available.
The Sabana Liber Pickup Crash appears to have resulted from a failure to give the right of way, based on the preliminary information gathered by police at the location.
Intersections, particularly T-junctions, require drivers to pay close attention to traffic already travelling on the main or continuing road. Failing to stop or yield can place occupants in other vehicles at direct risk, especially when the impact occurs on a passenger door.
In this case, the elderly woman was sitting on the side of the vehicle that was struck, which reportedly caused her injuries.
Police attended the scene to document the accident and assess the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The original report does not mention whether the pickup driver received a citation, whether alcohol or excessive speed was suspected, or whether either vehicle had to be removed from the scene.
No other injuries were reported.
The incident serves as a reminder for motorists throughout Aruba to approach intersections carefully, observe traffic signs and right-of-way rules, and make sure the roadway is clear before entering or crossing another traffic lane.
The Sabana Liber Pickup Crash also highlights how even a relatively common traffic error such as failing to yield can have serious consequences when another vehicle is struck on the passenger side.
Emergency personnel responded promptly, and the injured woman received care at the scene.
Authorities have not released additional information about her condition or any further legal action related to the crash.
