An Aruba environmental science graduate has completed her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Aruba after successfully defending research focused on water resilience for local households.
Celia graduated from the FAS-SISSTEM program in Sustainable Engineering, specializing in Environmental Science.
SISSTEM, which stands for Sustainable Island Solutions through Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, is an innovative program offered through the University of Aruba’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
For her thesis, Celia researched “The Feasibility of AC Water Harvesting for the Aruban Household.”
The study explores whether water produced by air-conditioning systems can be collected and reused as part of a more sustainable approach to water management in Aruba.
Her graduation committee consisted of Dr. Diego Acevedo, Dr. Nigel John and Dr. Kailas Malwade.
The University of Aruba congratulated Celia on completing her degree and wished her continued success in her future career.
The SISSTEM program also expressed pride in her achievement and confidence that she can contribute to Aruba’s ongoing sustainability efforts.
