ORANJESTAD, Aruba — ELMAR Briya Hunto Volunteers returned to community service by participating in the National Day of Care for Aruba in Brazil.

A group of 20 N.V. ELMAR employees collected litter along streets and public areas in Brazil and Mabon as part of the island-wide environmental campaign.

The activity also marked the relaunch of ELMAR’s volunteer group under its new name, Briya Hunto, meaning “Shine Together.”

Twenty Employees Join Cleanup

The volunteers worked along the route associated with the Cultural Folkloric Parade.

Their cleanup included Caya Bernadina Growell and surrounding areas in Brazil and Mabon.

By removing litter and other discarded material, the group helped prepare the neighbourhood for Brazil Day and the Cultural Folkloric Parade.

ELMAR said the participation demonstrated what employees can accomplish when they work collectively for the benefit of the wider community.

Volunteer Group Relaunched as Briya Hunto

The National Day of Care provided the setting for ELMAR to reactivate its employee volunteer programme.

Under the Briya Hunto name, the group will encourage employees to participate in projects supporting community wellbeing and positive social development.

The initiative’s message, “Together We Shine Brighter,” reflects the organisation’s emphasis on teamwork and shared responsibility.

The July cleanup was presented as the beginning of a renewed period of volunteer activity rather than a one-time project.

National Campaign Encouraged Shared Responsibility

The National Day of Care for Aruba was launched by the Government of Aruba as an island-wide campaign involving residents, businesses, schools, clubs, foundations and other organisations.

The main cleanup took place on July 25 and encouraged participants to take responsibility for streets, neighbourhoods and shared public areas.

CEDE Aruba was among the organisations supporting the government initiative, alongside public departments, environmental organisations, businesses and community groups.

The campaign operated under the slogan, “For me. For you. For all of us.”

Government officials said public agencies alone cannot maintain every part of the island and that long-term cleanliness also requires participation from residents and organisations.

Brazil Prepared for Cultural Activities

ELMAR’s volunteers selected an area connected to upcoming cultural and community activities.

Cleaning the Cultural Folkloric Parade route helped improve the appearance and condition of streets expected to receive participants and spectators.

The project also showed how environmental action can support neighbourhood events by creating cleaner and more welcoming surroundings.

The volunteers’ work covered areas where residents live, travel and gather, giving the cleanup a direct local impact.

ELMAR Expands Community Participation

N.V. ELMAR is responsible for distributing electricity throughout Aruba and maintaining the island’s electricity distribution network and streetlights. The company says its mission includes creating sustainable value for customers, employees and the wider community.

Through Briya Hunto, employees can contribute outside their usual professional responsibilities by supporting environmental, social and community projects.

Corporate volunteer programmes can also bring employees from different departments together around a shared activity.

In this case, the group’s collective work supported both the national cleanup and preparations for events in the Brazil neighbourhood.

Cleanup Supports Wider Environmental Message

The National Day of Care was intended to do more than collect waste on a single day.

Organisers also wanted to increase awareness that litter prevention, correct waste disposal and the maintenance of public areas require continuous attention.

ELMAR’s decision to relaunch its volunteer group during the campaign connected that national message with a longer-term internal programme.

Future Briya Hunto activities have not yet been announced, but the company said the group will continue promoting teamwork and participation in initiatives benefiting Aruba.

Teamwork Becomes Central Message

The ELMAR Briya Hunto Volunteers demonstrated how employees can contribute to neighbourhood improvement through organised community service.

Their work helped clear the Cultural Folkloric Parade route while supporting the broader effort to keep Aruba cleaner.

With 20 volunteers participating in Brazil and Mabon, the activity marked both a practical environmental contribution and the beginning of a renewed social commitment from ELMAR.

The group’s central message is reflected in its new name: when employees and communities work together, they can shine more brightly.
