Aruba continues to strengthen its position as a leading Caribbean destination. In May 2025, the island welcomed 117,125 stay-over visitors—a 5.3% increase compared to May 2024. The surge was powered by robust growth from South American markets and a major rise in cruise tourism.

So far in 2025, Aruba has received a total of 635,965 visitors, marking a 3.4% year-to-date increase. This growth highlights Aruba’s resilience and rising appeal across traditional and emerging tourism markets.

South America Leads Visitor Increases

South America posted the strongest regional growth in May 2025, with a 20.1% year-over-year increase in arrivals. Argentina led with a 155.6% increase (3,979 visitors), followed by Brazil with a 51.8% rise. Uruguay and Paraguay also saw over 40% growth, indicating successful airlift strategies and regional marketing campaigns.

Cruise Tourism Beats Forecasts

Aruba welcomed 47,361 cruise passengers in May 2025—up 36.6% compared to May 2024 and 10% higher than projections. The boost came from seven additional cruise ship calls. This positions Aruba to surpass 910,000 cruise passengers in 2025, showing strong confidence in the island’s port capacity and shore-side attractions.

Visitor Spending Hits $201 Million in Q1 2025

Visa cardholder data shows $201 million in visitor spending in the first quarter of 2025—an 8.8% increase from the previous year. Spending was concentrated in:

  • Restaurants and Dining: $58.1M (+11.2%)
  • Hotels and Lodging: $49.6M (+12.8%)
  • Retail: $43.3M

The average spend per cardholder was $679, with a slight decline in individual transaction value offset by increased volume.

North America Still Dominant, Canada Rises Sharply

North America accounted for 78.4% of total arrivals in May:

  • USA increased slightly by 1.7%
  • Canada surged by 41.3%, from 2,862 to 4,045 visitors

The Canadian growth is likely tied to added airlift and new travel incentives from key cities like Toronto.

European Markets Mixed but Valuable

Europe saw a moderate 7.6% rise in arrivals. Notably:

  • Italy: +50.7%
  • Switzerland: +14.5%
  • Sweden: +65.7%

Although European visitor volumes are smaller, they tend to stay longer, contributing significantly to hotel and restaurant revenue.

Hotel Sector Continues Upward Trend

In May 2025:

  • Total visitor nights: 730,405 (+2.5%)
  • Average Daily Rate (ADR): $277 (up from $274 in May 2024)
  • Hotel occupancy: 52.9% (vs. 51.8% last year)

This points to steady improvement across Aruba’s accommodation sector, including resorts, hotels, and alternative stays.
