The Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (Santa Rosa) has announced a shortage of dam water due to a lack of rainfall at the start of the year. This scarcity affects local farmers who rely on trucked water deliveries subsidized by the government. Currently, only four dams—Tanki Leendert, Tanki Flip, Rooi Afo, and Hooiberg—have water available in limited quantities. High demand driven by intense heat and Sahara dust has exacerbated the situation. Santa Rosa advises clients that advance payments for large quantities of water cannot be accepted at this time due to supply constraints. The department is also reminding farmers of the option to apply for subsidized water from WEB Aruba NV at a rate of AWG 5.50 per cubic meter. Farmers are urged to use water efficiently and avoid dumping waste near the dams to preserve the remaining supply.
