ORANJESTAD (AAN): Minister Wendrick Cicilia is prioritizing strategies to increase the local economic impact of cruise tourism in Aruba.
The Aruba Cruise Tourism Impact Strategy was discussed during meetings with cruise executives at Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami, alongside Aruba’s delegation.
Minister Cicilia emphasized shifting toward a value-based tourism model, focusing on higher spending visitors rather than increasing overall volume, ensuring sustainable growth for the island.
A key objective of the Aruba Cruise Tourism Impact Strategy is to create more opportunities for local businesses to directly benefit from cruise tourism, including encouraging visitors to extend their stay and explore local experiences.
Initiatives such as Ban Bek Caya and Carubbian in San Nicolas were highlighted as ways to enhance visitor engagement with local culture and commerce.
The minister also stressed the importance of involving more local tour operators in upcoming programs like Cruise Connect to ensure broader participation across the sector.
Additionally, sustainability measures such as the proposed “Marine Rest Day” were discussed to protect Aruba’s natural resources.
