Gas Bottles and Water Meters Should Be Turned Off Before Leaving Home for Camping

During the Semana Santa period, many citizens in Aruba continue the tradition of camping along the beach or in various locations across the island. While this time of reflection and family unity brings joy, it also requires responsibility. Therefore, it is essential that those planning to go camping take preventive measures and make the necessary preparations before leaving their homes or campgrounds to ensure safety, health, and well-being for all.

Francis Toussaint, from Brandweer Aruba, recently shared some important recommendations to consider. Before leaving home, especially if no one will remain behind to handle household chores, he advises turning off gas bottles. Additionally, it’s crucial to turn off the water meter to avoid any water flow in case of leaks during the period when the house is unattended. These basic but necessary precautions can help prevent incidents that would require the fire department’s services.

For those going camping, Mr. Toussaint offered the following advice: “Be aware of safety regulations. Most importantly, pay close attention to young children, especially when they are near water bodies or pools. Do not let them roam alone to prevent any tragedy while you are enjoying the outdoors.”

Finally, he indicated that Brandweer Aruba has divided the island into three areas and will be conducting regular patrols during the camping season to ensure the safety of all citizens.
