On March 24, 2026, I had the privilege of attending the launch of a new book, which I consider a unique treasure for the Papiamento language and the history of Aruba. The book is titled Ata Compa Nanzi atrobe.

The story of Compa Nanzi, written by authors Andy Daal and Yvette Ecury, with illustrations by Nigel Matthew, is a wonderful creation produced by the Fundacion Lanta Papiamento (FLP). It is a playful work for both young and adult readers.

What makes this book even more special is that it presents the story of Compa Nanzi alongside two orthographies: the Etymological orthography of Aruba and the Phonological orthography of Curacao.

The book launch at the National Library of Aruba was a special event. The event featured a cast of actors, including Richard Dabian (Cha Tiger), Madelene Kelly (Shi Maria), Aida Daems-Flanegien (Narado), and Onty Lopez (Compa Nanzi), who presented the story where Compa Nanzi humorously interacts with Cha Tiger.

On behalf of FLP, Dr. Joyce Pereira shared how this idea came to be and how it was successfully brought to market. She thanked everyone involved for their support.

Each person who played an important role in this production received a book as a gift. David Kock Jr. also had the opportunity to serve his local coffee, Kompa Nanzi, at the event.

It was a special evening where everyone present enjoyed the launch of both Ata Compa Nanzi atrobe and Ata Kompa Nanzi atrobe! Congratulations to the Fundacion Lanta Papiamento. For more information, visit the FLP’s Facebook page.
