ORANJESTAD (AAN): The Aruba Scouts Move Up Ceremony at Mangel Halto brought together members of Grupo Scout Ora Ubao Aruba for a special and meaningful event celebrating the progress of young scouts as they advanced to the next stage of their scouting journey.
Grupo Scout Ora Ubao Aruba continues to stand firmly on the fundamental principles of scouting: building character, responsibility, and a spirit of service within young people. The organization’s mission is to develop future leaders with integrity, discipline, and a strong commitment to their community. Its vision is to create conscious, responsible citizens who will contribute to a stronger and better future for Aruba.
After several weeks of break, the scouts gathered again on Saturday, February 28, for their first meeting of the new scouting period. The gathering took place at Mangel Halto, one of Aruba’s popular outdoor locations, where members participated in a traditional scouting activity known as “Overzwemmen, Overvliegen, and Overstappen,” which represents the transition of scouts from one age group to another.
The Aruba Scouts Move Up Ceremony at Mangel Halto marked an important milestone for the participants. During the event, older Bever scouts moved up to the Welp group (Horde), while the oldest Welp members advanced to the Verkenners group. The senior Verkenners then progressed to the Explorers, the next level within the scouting structure.
According to scout leader Edmira Christiaans, the transitions were designed to be both fun and meaningful for the young participants. Scouts had to pass through several obstacle challenges connected to personal growth and development. These challenges symbolized the progress each child had made within the scouting program.
Christiaans explained that the activities are meant to welcome the children into their new group while encouraging teamwork, resilience, and leadership skills. By completing the challenges, scouts officially begin their next stage in the program with a sense of achievement and excitement.
The scouting movement plays an important role in youth development on the island. Grupo Scout Ora Ubao Aruba remains committed to investing in the growth of children and young people, preparing them to become responsible leaders of tomorrow.
Scouting activities focus on values such as discipline, teamwork, respect for nature, and community service. Through outdoor activities, leadership training, and group cooperation, scouts develop important life skills that help shape their character.
The Aruba Scouts Move Up Ceremony at Mangel Halto also served as an opportunity to invite parents, volunteers, and the wider community to support the organization’s mission.
Grupo Scout Ora Ubao Aruba welcomes young members between the ages of 2 and 21 years, offering different sections depending on age and development stage. Parents who are interested in enrolling their children in the scouting program can contact the organization through its official Facebook page.
Through continued dedication to youth development, scouting remains an important platform for shaping confident and responsible future citizens of Aruba.
