Aeropuerto y Aruba Conservation Foundation have formed a strategic alliance to strengthen native biodiversity in Aruba.

Aruba Airport Authority (AAA) and Aruba Conservation Foundation (ACF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) based on a five-year commitment from 2026 to 2030. The main goal is the ecological restoration of parts of the protected area of Ser’i Teishi using native vegetation, thereby increasing native tree species diversity and supporting associated fauna biodiversity, including pollinators.

In line with AAA’s vision, sustainability goals, and its Environmental Management System Pillar 5 – Biodiversity Management, funds will be invested in planning, preparation, and phased restoration of the protected Ser’i Teishi area. The project will focus on long-term biodiversity improvement guided by ACF’s Protected Area Conservation Management Framework and land-based management priorities.

Over the past years, Aeropuerto y Aruba Conservation Foundation have collaborated on several impactful conservation initiatives. These include the launch of ACF’s Flora Biodiversity Enhancement Program at Arikok National Park in partnership with Cultuurfonds Caribisch Gebied, featuring a greenhouse that houses more than 70 native plant species as part of habitat restoration efforts.

AAA also supported the reintroduction of the Yellow-shouldered Amazon, locally known as the Lora, by contributing to the construction of a flight aviary. These joint efforts reflect a shared commitment to safeguarding Aruba’s natural environment and highlight AAA’s environmental responsibility within its airport operations and as a community partner.

Through these collaborations, Aeropuerto y Aruba Conservation Foundation continue to strategically protect Aruba’s natural environment while promoting sustainable best practices among AAA employees and the wider community
