In collaboration with UNICEF Netherlands, children in Aruba have worked on a creative video project in Papiamento that focuses on children’s rights. The UNICEF Kinderrechten Filmfestival aims to raise awareness about children’s rights among primary school students through a creative platform.

Shurman Milliard, a social worker who partnered with UNICEF Netherlands, shared that this project provided an opportunity to work on a significant cause in Aruba. The UNICEF Kinderrechten Filmfestival is a globally recognized initiative. In this project, children acted in videos on various themes they find important, expressing their thoughts and feelings in a unique way. The festival encourages children to express themselves through different skills, including acting, singing, dancing, and video production.

Milliard highlighted that this year, UNICEF Netherlands requested a video about children’s rights in Papiamento. To make the video a reality, a primary school and Gucci Dancers were involved. The goal of the video, according to Milliard, is to illustrate the presence of children’s rights in Aruba and to ensure that these rights are heard in the native language, Papiamento.

The video emphasizes the importance of understanding and appreciating children’s rights, which differ in every part of the world. There are 51 levels of children’s rights, and the way each country enforces these rights is unique.

The video is being promoted by UNICEF and the Kinderrechten Filmfestival on their YouTube channel, where it is available for adults to watch and share with their children. Milliard also encourages schools to use these videos as part of lessons to teach children about their rights.

The message from Milliard to the children is to watch the video, develop their skills, and use those abilities to support positive initiatives.

The video is available on the ‘Unicef Kinderrechten Filmfestival’ YouTube channel and other UNICEF platforms.
