Vehicles that remain parked beyond their paid parking time in Oranjestad risk being towed and owners will be required to cover all related costs, according to Minister of Justice Arthur Dowers, who also oversees Aruparking.

Minister Dowers provided a brief update on Monday regarding enforcement measures currently in place. He reported that over the past three months, 375 fines were issued to drivers who parked incorrectly or violated parking regulations. In addition, 150 vehicles were towed after obstructing traffic and creating potentially dangerous situations.

According to the minister, the stricter enforcement has resulted in more drivers paying for parking again in downtown Oranjestad. However, many still fail to comply once their paid parking time expires.

Dowers explained that Aruparking has the authority to clamp vehicles and subsequently tow them if necessary. While vehicle clamping has been paused, towing operations will continue. “In the coming weeks, it should not come as a surprise if your vehicle is towed when it has been parked for more than two hours without payment. All costs will be at the owner’s expense,” the minister stated.

He also assured the public that additional information regarding Aruparking regulations and enforcement will be shared through the media in the days ahead to ensure drivers are fully informed of their responsibilities.
