CMO Prepares for Potential Migration Surge and Consequences of Political Transition in Venezuela

ORANJESTAD (AAN): The Crisis Management Office (CMO) is actively preparing for any potential developments that could directly or indirectly affect Aruba as a result of the current situation in Venezuela, according to Mr. Rino Hermans, Director of CMO.

In an interview with DIARIO, Hermans explained that CMO is preparing for both a possible mass migration scenario and the consequences of a political transition in Venezuela. He emphasized that history has shown—citing examples such as Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan—that the removal or extradition of a head of state often leads to periods of instability within a country.

According to Hermans, CMO has been closely monitoring the situation in Venezuela since 2006 and remains actively engaged in assessing current developments while preparing the organization for any possible scenario. Earlier this week, CMO presented its preparedness plans to Parliament, outlining potential consequences that lawmakers must consider in order to operate and function effectively during a crisis situation.

Hermans stressed that this proactive approach is essential to keeping all stakeholders prepared and informed—not only regarding the geopolitical situation involving Venezuela and the United States, but also for any crisis that could affect Aruba, similar to the response required during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It is important that everyone is informed about CMO’s plans and contributions to safeguarding the security of Aruba,” Hermans emphasized.
