Festive Ban Bek Caya Pagara to Light Up Oranjestad on December 31

Aruba will close out 2025 with a vibrant cultural celebration as the annual Pagara returns to the city center in the form of a special Ban Bek Caya Pagara edition on December 31.

Pagara, a long strip of fireworks traditionally lit to mark the end of the year, symbolizes the cleansing of negative energy, the warding off of bad spirits, and the welcoming of a fresh new beginning. This year’s event is being organized by the government in collaboration with local merchants, resulting in what officials describe as a historic Pagara along the main street.

According to Marko Espinoza, head of government press, the event will begin at 2:00 p.m. The Pagara route will start at the Doña Clara building, continue through Wilhelminastraat, pass Columbusstraat and Plaza Nicky Habibe, extend along the full length of the main street, and conclude at Plaza Daniel Leo.

“The Pagara is more than fireworks; it’s a cultural tradition that brings our community together,” Espinoza said. “By working together with local merchants, we are creating a memorable and meaningful experience for residents and visitors alike.”

At Plaza Daniel Leo, the celebration will continue with live performances by Aruba’s King of Dande, Robert Maduro, the Queen of Dande, Mariela Croes, and the folkloric group Alma Folklorico, highlighting Aruba’s rich musical and dance heritage.

Ban Bek Caya is part of Aruba’s broader New Year festivities. The tradition will also take place in San Nicolas, where residents will light their own Pagara displays. On January 1, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in front of the Bestuurskantoor, a commemorative ceremony will be held to mark 70 years of the Aruban coat of arms, 40 years of Status Aparte, and 50 years of the national flag, including the unveiling of a special commemorative coat of arms.

By combining fireworks, music, and community participation, the Ban Bek Caya Pagara serves not only as a spectacular visual event but also as a meaningful expression of Aruba’s cultural identity—allowing the island to collectively close the year and welcome 2026 with hope and positivity.

Officials are encouraging everyone to participate responsibly and safely, emphasizing that the event is an opportunity to celebrate Aruba’s traditions in true island style.
