ORANJESTAD (AAN) – The Women’s Club of Aruba (WCA) is mourning the passing of its beloved Life Member, Mrs. Anna Geerman, a devoted volunteer and cherished friend whose dedication to the community spanned more than four decades.
Knowing that Mrs. Geerman had been facing health challenges for several years, members of the Women’s Club of Aruba nevertheless struggled to accept the loss of such a loyal and compassionate member. Anna officially became a member of this prestigious club in 1982 and from that moment onward dedicated her free time to serving the Aruban community she dearly loved.
Her deep care for seniors and vulnerable individuals led her to volunteer extensively with the Welfare Committee, which during the 1980s and 1990s supported children, individuals with special needs, hospital patients, prison inmates, and elderly residents in nursing homes.
Anna was also actively involved in the Save the Earth Committee, visiting schools to promote cleanliness and environmental awareness. Whenever help was needed, Anna was always present.
Her participation in countless projects was made possible thanks to her close friend Mena Anthony, who consistently supported her and ensured they attended meetings and committee activities together. The San Nicolas group, of which Anna was an integral part, regularly visited elderly homes in San Nicolas and Savaneta to play bingo, assist with celebrations, and support events organized or sponsored by the WCA.
Anna carried out her volunteer work with immense love, joy, and humor. Her cheerful personality brought happiness to everyone she encountered, and her warmth was contagious. Her stories and laughter were known to brighten any room.
Every year, Anna and her friends from Lago Heights lovingly crafted handmade items for the Christmas Bazaar, helping raise essential funds for the club. She also made it a tradition to purchase her Christmas gifts from the bazaar to share with neighbors and friends, reflecting her selfless spirit.
In 2017, Anna was formally recognized as a Life Member of the Women’s Club of Aruba in honor of her 40 years of volunteer service. She accepted this recognition with deep gratitude, pride, and joy.
Despite declining health in later years, Anna made every effort to attend general meetings, drawing strength and encouragement from her fellow members. These gatherings renewed her spirit and motivated her to continue facing her illness with courage.
In February, Anna was visited at home by members of the Membership Committee to celebrate her birthday. As always, she delighted everyone with her humorous and heartfelt stories and expressed sincere appreciation for the visit.
In 2007, the WCA Welfare Committee formed a close-knit friendship group known as “The SelFish Group,” consisting of 12 members who met monthly to support and uplift one another. Anna treasured this group deeply and traditionally hosted the December gathering, preparing Christmas meals and thoughtful gifts. December 2024 marked the final time the group gathered with Anna, unaware it would be their last.
With heavy hearts, the Women’s Club of Aruba bids farewell to an exceptional volunteer, a joyful soul, and a woman of unwavering loyalty and kindness. Though Anna has passed on, her legacy of love and service will never be forgotten.
The Women’s Club of Aruba extends its sincere condolences to her children Dulfo, Tuti, Rami, and Shirley, as well as to her extended family and friends. May her beautiful memory bring comfort and strength during this difficult time.
Rest in peace, dear Anna. You will forever remain in our hearts.
