Director Magaly Maduro explains procedures and responsibilities

In an interview with Matutino DIARIO, Mrs. Magaly Maduro, Director of Bureau Sostenemi, clarified that the institution deals exclusively with cases involving minors.

“If there is abuse, or even suspicion of any form of abuse, any citizen of Aruba — a professional, a schoolteacher, or anyone concerned — may report it to Bureau Sostenemi. Professionals are required to follow the connection code, and after that, we conduct an investigation. If the parents are willing to work with the relevant institutions, then those cases are treated accordingly. If the parents indicate that they have nothing to say and will continue acting as they wish, then the case must be transferred to another department,” Maduro explained.

She emphasized that citizens themselves can always make a report, but the institution has changed its operating structure. “This does not mean that everything can simply be dumped onto Bureau Sostenemi. If there is something you can do as a citizen or as a family member, we ask what steps you have already taken to help the situation. In any case, we call the parents and speak with them,” said Mrs. Maduro.
