Aruba Government Approves Policy for State-Owned Companies and Dividends

Minister of Finance, Economy, and Primary Sector, Geoffrey Wever, announced that the Government of Aruba has approved the official framework for participation and dividend management in state-owned companies, known as the “Deelnemingenbeleid y Dividendbeleid.” Minister Wever described this as “a highly important moment for Aruba’s governance.”

The development of this policy is part of the Landspakket and aims to create a clear regulatory framework for the government to act consistently and transparently in its role as a shareholder of state-owned enterprises, as well as in the distribution of dividends.

In collaboration with the Department of Finance, KPMG Corporate Finance, and PKF Aruba, the government designed the policy and an execution plan. The framework outlines roles, responsibilities, and structures for how state-owned companies will support Aruba’s broader development goals. It is based on regional best practices and international standards.

With this approval by the Council of Ministers, Aruba takes a solid step toward stronger governance and accountability in the management of state enterprises. The dividend policy will be guided by principles that safeguard the public interest, ensure continuity and credibility of government companies, and secure long-term investments.

The next step will be implementing the execution plan and introducing a Corporate Governance Law to guarantee consistent and transparent oversight of state-owned enterprises. Minister Wever emphasized that these companies exist to serve the public interest and contribute to Aruba’s development.

He expressed gratitude to the Department of Finance, KPMG Corporate Finance, PKF Aruba, the Landspakket team, and all contributors, calling this “a new era for the management of state-owned enterprises.” According to Wever, the AVP-FUTURO Cabinet is committed to good governance and modernization for the country.
