Kingdom Countries Must Continue Working Together on the Basis of Trust and Respect

During the opening session of the Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultation (IPKO) in the Netherlands, Jennifer Arends-Reyes, leader of the AVP faction and chair of the Kingdom and Foreign Affairs Committee, delivered a speech stressing the importance of cooperation, equality, and the well-being of all citizens across the Kingdom.

Arends-Reyes reminded participants that in a world of constant change, the four countries of the Kingdom must continue working together with trust and respect. “Coalitions may shift, elections bring new dynamics, but our foundation must remain strong: our parliaments, our shared responsibilities, and our vision for the future,” she stated.

Education was a central theme in her address. She highlighted that education is the key to personal growth and collective progress, pointing to Aruba’s focus on stronger links between education and the labor market, technical and technological training, and removing financial barriers for students.

She also stressed the need for equal opportunities for Caribbean youth in the Netherlands, who often face disadvantages in areas such as healthcare, housing, and student financing.

Arends-Reyes addressed broader global challenges, including climate change, migration, inflation, and geopolitical pressures. She emphasized Aruba’s need to diversify its economy while maintaining tourism as its main pillar, with sustainability, fair financing mechanisms, knowledge-sharing, and good governance as guiding principles.

She concluded with a call to prioritize the well-being of citizens: “Cooperation is not a sign of weakness, but rather the greatest strength we share within the Kingdom.
