It’s Thursday night in Nassau, and the soulful sound of “Funky Nassau” drifts through the air as a live band takes the stage at Jon Batiste’s Jazz Club in Baha Mar. The crowd sips rum cocktails under moody lighting in a venue that rivals the finest jazz lounges in the world.

Welcome to Nassau and Paradise Island — no longer just sun-and-sand destinations, but the epicenter of Caribbean mixology and cocktail culture.

From Tropical Classics to World-Class Cocktails

The Bahamas has long been associated with colorful island drinks like the Bahama Mama, Goombay Smash, and Sky Juice. But in recent years, Nassau’s bar scene has undergone a transformation — evolving into a gourmet-level cocktail destination with globally acclaimed venues, innovative mixologists, and one of the world’s finest spirits collections.

What changed?

According to Kyle Jones, a visionary mixologist who moved to the Bahamas 15 years ago, the shift began with his bar Bon Vivants, then skyrocketed with the launch of The Dilly Club — named the Caribbean Bar of the Year in 2024.

“Fifteen years ago, cocktails weren’t even a thing here,” Jones told Caribbean Journal. “Now, you can’t go out without seeing thoughtful cocktail menus, fresh citrus, and global-level mixology.”

Where to Sip in Style: The Best Bars in Nassau and Paradise Island

1. Jon Batiste’s Jazz Club, Baha Mar
Live jazz meets elegant ambiance. Order a craft rum cocktail and enjoy the show in what’s fast becoming the Caribbean’s most stylish music venue.

2. The Lounge at Graycliff
An iconic bar located in a historic mansion, home to the world’s third-largest wine cellar and the largest collection of cognac in the Western Hemisphere. Don’t miss the piano-accompanied champagne cocktails.

3. The Dilly Club, Atlantis Marina Village
A trailblazer in the island’s bar renaissance. Tiki-inspired by night, chic café by day, with memorable creations like the “Call Your Mother” featuring pineapple rum, passionfruit, and Mezcal.

4. Martini Bar at The Ocean Club, A Four Seasons Resort
A legendary haunt where James Bond famously ordered his first cocktail in Casino Royale. Iconic and timeless.

5. Marcus Up Top, Baha Mar
A stylish rooftop retreat from celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson. Great vibes, coastal views, and craft cocktails to match.

6. Bon Vivants, Sandyport
The birthplace of Nassau’s cocktail awakening. This relaxed beachfront gem remains a must-visit for purists and adventurers alike.

7. T-Squared Cigar Lounge, Baha Mar Casino
Pair rare spirits with fine cigars in this upscale hideaway designed for sophisticated nightlife.

8. Cafe Martinique
This Atlantis staple offers absinthe-inspired drinks, a moody setting, and a luxurious ambiance ideal for date nights.

9. Poop Deck, Sandyport
A local favorite serving up mini versions of Bahamian classics — the best way to sample the country’s cocktail roots.

A Spirit of Innovation

Beyond just drinks, Nassau is embracing cocktail culture at every level. From consulting firms like Jones’ bar program studio (supporting over 10 venues) to new moonshine ventures like the one in Graycliff Heritage Village — innovation is pouring freely.

“The trajectory has changed completely,” Jones said. “Nassau is now a global cocktail destination.”

The Verdict: Why Nassau Is Leading the Caribbean Bar Scene

Whether you’re a jazz lover, spirits aficionado, or cocktail connoisseur, Nassau and Paradise Island now offer one of the most dynamic bar cultures in the entire hemisphere. It’s not just about rum punches anymore — it’s about curated menus, expertly balanced flavors, and unforgettable experiences.

And with every sip, the islands continue to redefine what Caribbean nightlife means.
