High Commissioner of the Aruba Police Force, Ramon Arnhem, has issued an official response following a controversial article published on a local news website (EaNews) on June 30, 2025, which cast doubt on his integrity and that of the KPA. The article, widely circulated on social media, alleged misconduct within the police force, including cover-ups and favoritism.
Commissioner Arnhem firmly refuted the claims, describing them as speculative, sensationalized, and lacking factual foundation. He clarified that a thorough internal investigation had been conducted following protocol and submitted to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which found no grounds for further action.
One of the more serious concerns addressed was the article’s mention of false information regarding a deceased individual, implying that key details were withheld. Arnhem labeled these suggestions as harmful and disrespectful.
The Commissioner also criticized insinuations that his local heritage as a “yiu di tera” influenced his professional decisions, calling such claims discriminatory and divisive. He reaffirmed that all police employees are treated equally under the law, regardless of origin or position.
“I fully respect freedom of the press,” Arnhem stated, “but that freedom carries a responsibility. Reporting must be grounded in facts, not assumptions.”
Despite the controversy, the KPA remains committed to transparency, accountability, and public trust. Arnhem concluded with a call to media outlets to prioritize responsible, balanced journalism in service of the community.
