A Celebration of Heritage and History in Aruba’s Southern City

On Sunday, June 1st, 2025, the vibrant city of San Nicolas will host the second edition of Open Monument Day Aruba, offering a full day of cultural discovery from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Organized by Monuments Fund Aruba in partnership with the Department of Culture Aruba, this family-friendly event invites everyone to explore the rich history, architecture, and stories behind San Nicolas’ most iconic monuments.

Explore Historic Sites and Join Guided Tours

The day begins at the Watertoren San Nicolas (Bernhardstraat 164), the central hub where visitors can get information booklets and enjoy a festive opening ceremony. From there, you can visit several historic sites:

  • Museo di Industria – Industrial history and scavenger hunt

  • Nicolaas Store – Local museum with mini games and prizes

  • Uncle Louis Store – Restored monument with eco-restoration insights

  • Casa di Famia Vorst & Hope – Historic family homes with music and legacy stories

  • Santa Teresita Church – Open for exploration

Interactive Tours and Educational Presentations

  • Monument Hunt – Join the fun using the MyAruba app and win prizes

  • Bus Tours – Explore historic and artistic sites with expert guides

    • Mural Tour by Tito Bolivar at 3:00 PM

    • Village Tour by Leon Berenos at 3:45 PM

  • Presentations at Biblioteca Nacional San Nicolas

    • Lecture: San Nicolas in the 20th Century

    • Wikipedia Aruba Project – Learn how to help document heritage
